Max Strength & Performance offers comprehensive strength training programs and 1-on-1 personal training in the Indianapolis area. MSP has a goal-oriented approach that allows you to accomplish personal goals such as weight loss, injury prevention, mental development, and/or sports performance. Our main objective is to promote a healthier lifestyle while tailoring to your personal growth and development.

Meet The Team

Sammy Wilkerson

Co-Founder/Strength & Conditioning Coach

I have been a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the past 3 years at Marian University-Indianapolis. Prior to Marian University, I was an intern for the 2016-2017 athletic season with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Athletic Performance team. I graduated from Marian University- Indianapolis with a B.S. in Exercise Science where I was a 4-year member of the baseball team. Over my 4-year career, I had 4 surgeries on my right arm. I really grew my passion for fitness when I was recovering from my injuries over my collegiate career. I thrived off learning ways to rehabilitate myself and come up with different variety of exercises to use to help get myself healthy again.  I realized the importance of strength training and proper mechanics can help with injury reduction and performance. Growing up, I never had the proper coaching and guidance in fitness. So, I devoted my career in fitness with the goal in mind to help my clients achieve the healthy lifestyle and goals they desire.

              I am a Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) and Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting (USAW).

Mike Copeland

Co-Founder/Strength & Conditioning Coach

I have been a Strength and Conditioning Coach for 3 years at Marian University – Indianapolis. I graduated from Marian University with a B.S in Exercise Science. While attending college my first year as a collegiate athlete I had suffered injuries that had ended my career. Through time I had been able to heal and rehab myself through strength training which had fueled my passion for fitness and to help others to achieve their goals. The importance of strength training and guidance of fitness techniques ensures longevity. I devoted my career in fitness with the goal in mind to get clients and athletes to buy in to the program. This helps increase the response in performance and improves the athletes or clients ability to accomplish their goals.

I am a Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC) and Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting (USAW).

Adult Training

  • Adult training with MSP is structured to help you move better and feel healthier. Each program is modified to your training level. We will motivate you and encourage you to achieve your goals.
  • We offer training availability according to your personal needs.
  • MSP designs and coaches well rounded programs that are led start to finish by coaches who will demonstrate and instruct you how to perform exercises correctly.
  • Each one-hour session will begin with soft tissue and mobility tailored to your specific needs. A dynamic warm up to rise body temperature to prepare you for your workout. The workout incorporates functional total body exercises that ensure well rounded strength. You will end the workout with conditioning that is based on your individual goals.

Sports Performance

  • Sports Performance with MSP is structured for all-athletes to become a well-rounded athlete while catering to each athlete’s specific sport.
  • Each one-hour session will begin with soft tissue and mobility tailored to your specific needs. A dynamic warm up to rise body temperature to prepare you for your workout. The workout incorporates functionally sound movement training, strength training, and conditioning with a strong focus on basic and proper technique.
  • The workout becomes progressively more challenging once basic techniques have been mastered.
    • Speed- Acceleration, Deceleration, Linear and Lateral Movement Techniques, Running Mechanics, and Footwork
    • Explosive PowerOlympic Lifting, Plyometrics, Medicine Ball, Jumping & Landing Techniques
    • Strength- Focus on Upper body and Lower Body & Core
    • ConditioningGame Ready Preparation for all Athletes
    • FlexibilitySoft Tissue (Foam Rolling), Stretching, Mobility
    • Injury Reduction-Identify & Correct Muscular imbalances, Balance, Stabilization

Speed & Agility

  • Improving technique in athletes is critical to achieve exponential gains in speed and explosiveness.
  • MSP works to break down and focus on individual movements to help athletes increase performance for competition.
  • Speed/Agility sessions will include the following:
    • COD- Change of Direction
    • Reactive Agility
    • Plyometric Exercises
    • Lateral Movement
    • Proper Sprint Mechanics
    • Proprioception
    • Sport Specific Drills
  • All of these different techniques allows the athlete to increase performance and see peak speed improvement.

Max Strength and Performance believes each client should have the best overall training experience. This is why we use Train Heroic. Train Heroic is a online training software that enables us to deliver a personalized training experience to each client. With detailed coaching instruction,  video instruction, engaging chat, video sharing, and more. Train Heroic allows us to track your daily wellness, workout performance from session to session, and your overall growth from year to year. Train Heroic allows us, as coaches, to deliver a personable coaching experience wherever you train.

When I first started coming to Sammy I was not only weak physically but mentally as well. Within the years of me going to Sammy he hasn’t only built me up physically stronger but mentally as well. I am a lot more confident in myself and I am more sure of myself now too. When I started with Sammy I weighed about 155 pounds and now I weigh 180 pounds. That 25 pounds hasn’t only made me stronger but it has also given me so many opportunities that I believe I wouldn’t have gotten if I didn’t have Sammy’s help to get me stronger. Some examples are the fact that he helped me completely regain my strength after a bad concussion and I thought I would never get back to wear I was on the field but he made sure I came back better than I was before. Because of him I have also gotten a lot for shout outs by recruiting sites which helps me with college coaches. I love working out with Sammy, he not only makes it fun but by the end I am drenched in sweat!

I started working with Mike to get in shape for wrestling season. He takes the time to teach me the proper technique for each exercise that he gives me. He always has my safety in mind and helps me learn the workouts that would benefit my strength and flexibility the most for my sports. Mike is highly skilled and is always available when I have questions. Working with him has been one of my best decisions, he has greatly helped me prepare for wrestling better than any training I have done.

Before training with Sammy I would’ve considered myself to be a hard gainer who had plateaued on squat, bench, and deadlift. Once I began powerlifting with Sammy, he taught me many aspects about training and diet that accelerated my progress in the gym. I could finally begin to add weight to the bar as well as on the scale! Working out with Sammy was always something I looked forward to as he was understanding of my situation and motivating me towards my goals.
